Guidelines for online success

A few weeks back I picked up Taschen’s “Guidelines for online success – The Do’s and Don’ts of the Internet from the best interactive agencies around the world“.
I’m slowly working my way through it, mostly because it’s a rather enjoyable read. Edited by FWA’s Rob Ford and Julius Wiedemann of Taschen it is an odyssey in to the work of some of our industry’s brightest and interesting minds.
Divided in to chapters like “Interface & Design” and “Technology & Programming” it starts each chapter with an intro followed by sub sections with 3 do’s and 3 don’ts and a series of examples complete with screen grabs and agency info (but oddly, no client info).

While it’s fun to look at sites on paper, I wish the book had given the intro writers more space, and also pointed out what each of the example sites does well and less well. That type of editorial commentary would make the book more useful, especially when teaching newer arrivals to the industry, curious clients and others.
Still it’s a good book, despite its somewhat simplistic title.
